Thanks to scotCLANS for allowing me to use the information on their history page. There is a wealth of information on their site that is well worth browsing.

For a wonderful interactive clan map be sure to visit Lochcarron of Scotland‘s page here.

Another great site about Scottish history and culture is ElectricScotland and on their page here there are several detailed accounts of the Ogilvie family history.

For some great information about the national flower of Scotland, the Scottish thistle, follow this link to the Serenata Flowers site. On this page you will also find many more links to pages describing the origins and meaning behind this humble thistle.

A brief history and a description of some of the terms that are used to describe tartans can be found here (thanks Lily!), and nice images of all of the Ogilvie tartans can be found here. A high quality image and more information about the history of the tartan can be found by clicking one of the images on that page. To search the Scottish Register of Tartans click here.

  1. would the Ogilvie family of Montreal, Quebec, Canada ( arrived 1800) be related to the Ogilvie families of Australia ?
